And We're Off....

We had a great first week of preschool.  The kids were so excited and well, I was a little excited, too.  We talked about rules, new friends and our routine.  Our 3 year old class discussed our names and what very important people they are.  They completed an "I am special" book and they wore home their names on cowboy hats.

Our 4 year old class read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?"  They found the book hilarious!!  We talked about colors, shapes and played some bear games to practice our math skills, smaller to bigger, and some matching.  They finger painted a bear to take home and we introduced our first 2 letters, m and s.  We discussed how each letter has a name and a sound, like a cow is called a cow and it's sound is "moooo."   They practiced writing these letters, as well.

Both classes got some playdough time in and that was a big hit.  They want to start with that, but the boring teacher insists we save it until last!!

Next week, the 3 year olds will be learning about the letter "m."  We will be discussing manners with our manners keys, Mickey and Minney and playing, (ok, and eating), with M&M's.  We will also be working on the number 1.

Our 4 year olds will be having a name and M&M day, as well, and then discussing Apples and Dino Manners.  We will review letters m and s and introduce letter a.  As soon as we discuss letter a, we will start to learn about putting our letters together to make words.  I will send home some letter blending sheets with them in the next couple of weeks, and I encourage you to spend a little time with them on those, because when they suddenly put letters together and read a real word all by themselves, they are very excited.  It is so fun to see.

Thanks so much for some of the supplies that have been sent to the classroom this week.  Always helpful!!  Also, if you have not paid your tuition yet, please remember to do that as soon as possible.  I know it is the beginning of the year and not a habit on the mind yet, but as I spend almost the whole first months fees on supplies I have been waiting to get for the students, I am anxious to be able to finish up some of the waiting projects.

Well, that's it for this week.  As I am so new to this blog thing, please don't forget to let me know of any suggestions, (although as a warning, that may be followed by me inviting you over to show me how to make such a change!!).  I am going to attempt to download some picture from our first couple of days, so be sure to check those out.  The kids have all been great and we have had a really great start to our awesome year!!
